Pulse Tube and Soft Drink Can

This photo shows the Lockheed Pulse Tube Minicooler beside a can of Diet Coke. The main body of the Minicooler is about the same size as the Coke can. The coldfinger which is attached to the middle of the Minicooler main body is about as long as a Coke can, but only about an inch in diameter.

The main body of the Minicooler is about the size of the Coke can in the picture. The main body is also roughly cylindrical, but not exactly.

The midsection is partly rounded but also has flat sections. A short cylinder (an inch or 2 in diameter, by an inch or 2 long) is attached to the flat part of the near side. There's some sort of tubing fitting attached to the far side, but it's mostly hidded. The cold finger is attached to the top flat section. It's about as long as a Coke can, but only an inch or so in diameter. It ends in a flange that looks to be about 2 inches in diameter by about 1/2 inch thick. The exposed end of the disk is copper colored. (Most of the the Minicooler is silvery metal colored.)

The ends of the cooler main body are silvery in color, like the midsection. They are domed slightly.

Between the ends and the midsection, the main body is cylindrical and black. Return to Lockheed Coolers Page

This is a Computer Aided Design (CAD) picture of the Lockheed Pulse Tube Minicooler. It looks just like the photograph, above, except that there's no Coke can sitting beside it. Return to Lockheed Cryocoolers Page
